Under 5% engineer attrition

Hire PHP Developers in India

Dedicated Laravel, CodeIgniter and Yii2 engineers who stay on your project. Our attrition is under 5% against an industry average of 20 to 25% — which matters more in PHP than almost anywhere else, because the person who knows your codebase is worth more than the person who knows the framework. Straight talk on cost

What Actually Determines Your PHP Rate

PHP is the stack where published hourly rates do the most damage. The range online runs from four dollars an hour to eighty, and neither end tells you anything useful. We do not publish a single number. We publish the six things that move it, and we give you a firm quote in one working day instead of a proposal in a week.

Seniority

An engineer who builds CRUD modules and one who can profile a slow query and plan a framework upgrade are different products. We will tell you which one your work needs, even when it is cheaper.

Team size

One engineer and a pod of five are priced differently. Per-head cost drops as the team grows, because our overhead per engineer drops with it.

Contract duration

A three-month engagement and a two-year one carry different rates. PHP maintenance work tends to run long, and longer commitments price better because our recruitment cost is spread across more months.

Payment terms

Advance, milestone and net-30 billing are not priced the same. Tell us what your finance team needs and we will price around it rather than pretend the payment terms make no difference.

Where you contract from

Indian clients are quoted in rupees at domestic rates with GST. International clients are quoted in US dollars. Two markets, two rate cards, both set fairly for the market they serve. You will never be handed a converted dollar rate in India.

Remote, onsite or hybrid

Most engagements run remotely from Coimbatore. Some do not: we have PHP engineers working full time inside a client site in Chennai. Onsite carries relocation and allowance costs so it is priced separately, but it is genuinely available.

A firm quote in one working day

Tell us the framework, the seniority, how many engineers and roughly how long. You get a written quote with the rate, the minimum term and the notice period inside one working day. No discovery call required first, and no obligation after.

Hiring in India? You will be quoted in INR at domestic rates, not converted from dollars.
Your risk, removed

Four Things We Put in Writing Before You Pay

Hiring an engineer thousands of kilometres away is a leap of faith. These four commitments are in every contract we sign, not buried in a proposal deck.

5-day free trial

Work with the engineer for five business days at no cost. Real tickets, real sprint, your tools. If it is not a fit, you owe nothing.

Replacement in 5 business days

Unhappy with the engineer at any point in the engagement? We replace them free of charge within five business days. No argument, no invoice.

100% IP ownership

Every line of code, every commit, every design file is yours from the moment it is written. Assigned in the contract, not promised verbally.

Signed NDA + ISO 27001:2022

Mutual NDA signed before you share anything. Our information security is independently certified, so your security review already has an answer.

Who hires us

Four Situations Our PHP Engineers Are Hired For

If one of these sounds like your quarter, you are in the right place.

Keep a business-critical PHP app alive

The application runs your business and the people who built it have gone. You need engineers who can read someone else's Laravel, CodeIgniter or Yii codebase, work out why it does what it does, and start shipping fixes without breaking the rest of it.

Modernise a legacy PHP codebase

An unsupported PHP version, a framework three major releases behind, and a hosting provider asking questions. We upgrade in planned phases with the system live throughout, rather than freezing your roadmap for a rewrite that may never land.

Add PHP capacity to your own team

You have a team, a backlog and a headcount gap. Our engineers join your standups, your tracker and your repo and report to your lead. Remotely from Coimbatore, or onsite at your office — we currently run both.

Build a new Laravel product or admin platform

An ERP, a customer portal, a multi-panel back office, a marketplace. Built properly on a modern PHP framework with an API layer, role-based access and a database schema designed for the next five years rather than the next release.

Real technical depth

Three honest caveats, so you hire the right person

On frameworks

Laravel, CodeIgniter and Yii2 are the three we can put an engineer in front of you to defend. On Symfony, CakePHP, Zend or a bespoke in-house framework an experienced PHP engineer will pick it up, because the language and the patterns are the same — but we will call that a ramp-up rather than sell it as a specialisation.

On deployment and testing

A PHP engineer can deploy to a Linux server, configure Apache or Nginx and write basic PHPUnit tests. That is working knowledge, not specialisation. For production-grade infrastructure, real CI/CD or test automation, hire a DevOps engineer or a QA engineer as a separate role. We staff both.

On the frontend

Blade, Bootstrap, jQuery and AJAX cover most server-rendered applications, and our PHP engineers are comfortable across all of them. If you are building a React or Vue front end against a Laravel API, pair them with a React engineer rather than expect one person to be excellent at both.

One team, the whole estate

We Also Maintain WordPress, WooCommerce and Moodle

Most of our PHP work is custom application development. But if your Laravel app sits alongside a CMS, a store and a learning platform, one team can look after all four.

WordPress Content sites, custom themes and plugins, version and security upgrades
WooCommerce Storefronts, checkout, payment gateways and order workflows
Moodle Course delivery, multilingual content and performance at scale
Version upgrades Unsupported releases brought current, with the system live throughout

For International Training in Florida we upgraded all four to supported versions and fixed the Moodle performance problems on a platform used by thousands of divers and instructors. See that case study below.

Who you actually get

Three Seniority Bands, and What Each One Can Do

Rather than parade three CVs that go stale, here are the three bands we staff PHP roles from, with the experience range and the work each one genuinely owns. Our senior band runs from six years to well past ten. Tell us the band and you get three real CVs matched to it within 48 hours, assessment reports attached.

6-10+ yrs
Senior PHP Engineer
Laravel-led, architecture and review

Owns architecture decisions and code review for a pod. Profiles and fixes slow queries on high-traffic applications, plans and runs framework and PHP version upgrades, and designs the database schema before anyone writes a controller. This is the band you want if the codebase is old, undocumented, or about to be handed over.

Reach beyond our own bench

Not on Our Bench? You Still Get a Profile.

Most vendors go quiet when the exact skill you need is not sitting idle in their office. We do not, because our own bench is not the only bench we can reach.

In-house first, always

We start with our own 80+ engineers in Coimbatore. If the match is on our payroll, that is who you get, because it is the fastest and most accountable option for both of us.

30+ partner companies across India

Where we do not have the match in-house, we have standing partnerships with more than 30 established Indian IT services companies and access to their benches. Far wider reach than any single company's bench, without going near an anonymous freelance marketplace.

One point of contact, same guarantees

You deal only with us. We source, screen and assess the engineer, we hold the contract, we send one invoice, and we carry the accountability. The 5-day trial, the 5-business-day replacement, the IP assignment and the NDA all apply exactly the same way.

This is not theoretical. It is how we sourced and screened 250+ profiles and got 30+ engineers onboarded for Biz2Credit in New York inside three months — a volume no single company's bench in India could have covered alone. That was a JavaScript engagement rather than a PHP one, and we are citing it here because sourcing and screening at that speed is stack-independent. Read the Biz2Credit case study.

Quality control

How We Vet, and How You Should Test Us

Every vendor claims their developers are "A+". Here is our actual process, and the questions we think you should use to check whether it worked.

Our screening process

  • 1 CV and stack screen Role-specific filter against the PHP skill matrix above, including which framework and which version, not a generic "PHP developer" keyword match.
  • 2 Scored technical assessment Run on Xobin. Only candidates who pass this go any further, and you get the report alongside the CV so you see the score before you interview.
  • 3 Live coding round A real problem in PHP, solved while we watch. No take-home assignments, because those can be outsourced.
  • 4 Technical interview with a senior engineer Database design, query performance, framework internals, security habits and how they read unfamiliar code, run by someone who does the job.
  • 5 Communication check and reference verification They will be on calls with your team, so we check that directly. Prior employer verification before any offer.

We hire for retention, not just for skill. That is why our attrition sits under 5% while the Indian IT industry average is 20 to 25%.

What you should ask us to prove

  • Interview the actual engineer, not a sales lead. Ask us to put the engineer on the call unaccompanied. If a vendor resists this, walk away.
  • Give them unfamiliar code to read. Most PHP work is inheriting someone else's application. Show them a controller from your own codebase and ask what it does. That test separates real engineers from framework tutorial graduates faster than anything else.
  • Ask them to explain an N+1 query. Then ask how they would find one in your application. A good PHP engineer will name the tool. A weak one will describe the concept.
  • Ask who owns the code. Get IP assignment in the contract, in writing, before day one. We assign it by default.
  • Ask what happens if it is not working. Get the replacement window and notice period in the contract. Ours are 5 business days and 30 days.
  • Ask for the attrition figure. Very few vendors will give you a number. It is the best single predictor of whether your engineer is still there in month nine.
Engagement models

Pick the Model That Fits, Not the One That Suits Us

Three ways to work with us. The differences that actually matter are hours, minimum term and who manages the engineer day to day.

ModelHoursBest forMinimum termNotice to exitWho manages day to day

Best value per hour

Dedicated part-time 4 hrs/day
5 days/week, a fixed daily window agreed with you
Maintenance, a second pair of hands, specialist input alongside your team 3 months 30 days Your lead, in your sprints
Hourly / time & material
Most flexible
As needed
billed on actual hours worked
Short scoped work, spikes, audits, unpredictable volume None 2 weeks Our project manager, or yours — your call
Three things worth spelling out
  • Starting is fast, whichever model you pick. Your engineer is onboarded and working two working days after you sign off. None of these models has a waiting period at the start.
  • "Notice to exit" applies only at the end. It is how much warning you give us when you want to close the engagement, so we can plan the handover properly and redeploy the engineer. It has no bearing on how quickly you can start.
  • Part-time means four hours every working day in a window we agree with you upfront, not eighty hours to be spent whenever. That way your engineer is predictably there for your standup and your working sessions, rather than disappearing for a fortnight and then working double.

All three models include the 5-day free trial, the 5-business-day replacement guarantee, 100% IP assignment and a signed mutual NDA. Daily standups and weekly written reports are standard. We work in your tracker — Jira, Linear, ClickUp, Asana, Zoho Projects or ours. Onsite deployment within India is available and priced separately.

Why us over the other 200

Six Things Most Offshore Vendors Cannot Say

Every one of these is a fact you can check, not a claim you have to take on trust.

Attrition under 5%

The Indian IT industry averages 20 to 25%. Ours is under 5%. In PHP maintenance work this is the whole ballgame: the value is in the engineer who knows your codebase, and that value resets to zero every time one leaves.

ISO 27001:2022 certified

11 years, 400+ clients, one office

Same founder, same leadership, same Coimbatore delivery centre since 2015. Oro Corp has been with us since 2015 and Tart Labs for years. We are not a brokerage reselling freelancers.

In-house first, 30+ partner benches behind it

80+ engineers on our own payroll in Coimbatore, and that is always where we look first. Where the match is not in-house, partnerships with 30+ Indian IT companies give us the reach — with us still holding the contract and the accountability. How that works.

We deploy onsite in India, not just remotely

Two of our PHP engineers work full time inside a client facility in Chennai on an 18-month purchase order. If your requirement genuinely needs people in your building, we can do that. Most offshore vendors cannot.

You talk to engineers, not account managers

Your engineer joins your standup, your tracker and your repo, and reports to your lead. No layer of project management wedged between you and the person writing the code.

Before you commit to a framework

Laravel, CodeIgniter or Yii: Which Should You Actually Build On?

All three are PHP MVC frameworks and all three will work. The difference decides your hiring market, how much you write yourself, and how expensive the application is to own in year five. Here is our honest read, from a team that staffs all three.

ConsiderationLaravelCodeIgniterYii2
What it is A full-featured, opinionated framework with the largest ecosystem in PHP. A lightweight MVC framework with a small footprint and few conventions imposed on you. A component-based framework, strong on rapid CRUD and admin generation.
What you get out of the box Eloquent ORM, auth scaffolding, queues, task scheduler, migrations, Blade, Artisan CLI, mail, events. Routing, query builder, form validation. Auth, ORM and queues you add or write yourself, and then own and maintain. ActiveRecord, built-in RBAC, Gii code generation, caching, form widgets, REST scaffolding.
Best suited to New products, APIs, SaaS, anything you intend to grow and maintain for years. Small to mid-sized applications, modest shared hosting, teams who want minimal abstraction. Data-heavy admin panels, ERP-style back offices and permission-driven internal systems.
Learning curve Moderate. A lot of framework to learn, but the documentation is the best in PHP. Lowest. A competent PHP developer is productive within days — though the time saved learning goes back into writing the pieces Laravel ships with. Steeper. Configuration and conventions take time to absorb properly.
Hiring market in India By far the largest. Easiest and cheapest to hire and to replace. Still large but shrinking, and now mostly maintenance rather than new build. Replacing someone who leaves gets harder each year. Small. Specialist hiring, and slower to replace someone who leaves.
Footprint and hosting Heavier. A non-issue with caching and modern hosting, a real one on cheap shared hosting. Lightest of the three. That mattered more when cheap shared hosting was the norm than it does now. Light and fast. Performance-conscious by design.
Where it is heading Active release cycle, biggest package ecosystem, most third-party integrations. CodeIgniter 4 is actively maintained, but its package ecosystem is a fraction of Laravel's and greenfield projects rarely start here now. Yii2 is maintained and stable. The community is small and Yii3 has been slow to arrive.
Our honest recommendation For anything new, choose Laravel, and it is not a close call. The ecosystem, the documentation and the size of the hiring market settle it before any technical difference comes into play, and it is also where the depth of our own PHP team sits. If you already run a stable CodeIgniter application, keep it — rewriting a working system because the framework has gone out of fashion is one of the more expensive mistakes we are asked to clean up. Upgrade it to CodeIgniter 4 on a supported PHP version and build anything new alongside it in Laravel. Yii2 earns its place when the product is an admin-heavy, permission-heavy back office, which is exactly why RAK Gold Jewellers runs on it today. We staff all three, which is why we can tell you plainly that Laravel is where our depth is.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring PHP Developers

Including the ones most vendors dodge.

How much does it cost to hire a PHP developer from India, and why don't you publish your rates?

Because in PHP a single published rate is worse than no rate at all. The market online runs from about four dollars an hour to eighty, and the number tells you nothing about who you are actually getting. Six things set the real rate: seniority, how many engineers you take, contract duration, payment terms, whether the engagement is remote or onsite, and whether you are contracting from India or overseas. A senior engineer on a two-year rupee-denominated Indian contract with advance billing, and a junior engineer on a three-month hourly engagement billed net-30 in dollars, are genuinely different prices — publishing one figure would mean overquoting most Indian clients or underquoting most overseas ones. What we will commit to is speed: tell us the framework, the seniority, the headcount and roughly how long, and you get a firm written quote with the rate, minimum term and notice period within one working day. No discovery call required first, and no obligation after.

Which PHP frameworks do your developers actually work in?

Laravel, CodeIgniter (both 3 and 4) and Yii2, with the depth of the team in Laravel. All three are backed by live client work: Laravel at International Training and 1851 Franchise, Yii2 at RAK Gold Jewellers, and PHP MVC frameworks with MySQL and REST APIs at South West Port. If your application runs on Symfony, CakePHP, Zend or a bespoke in-house MVC framework, tell us upfront. An experienced PHP engineer will pick it up, because the language and the patterns are the same, but we will describe that as a ramp-up rather than sell it to you as a specialisation.

Can you take over a PHP application that someone else built?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Most PHP work is inheriting a codebase, not starting one. Our normal approach is a short paid discovery: an engineer reads the codebase, maps the modules, documents what exists and flags the risks, and you get that written up before any long-term commitment. If the application is in worse shape than you were told, you will hear it from us at that point rather than three months in. International Training handed us four legacy systems they had not built, and we run them today.

Our application runs on an old PHP version. Can you upgrade it without a rewrite?

Usually, yes. A jump from an unsupported PHP version to PHP 8, or from CodeIgniter 3 to 4, or from an old Laravel release to a current one, is normally a phased upgrade rather than a rewrite. We work through it module by module with the system live throughout, upgrading dependencies, fixing deprecations and adding tests around the parts that matter as we go. A full rewrite is occasionally the right answer, but it is rarer than vendors like to suggest, and we will tell you honestly which one your codebase needs. For International Training we upgraded four separate legacy platforms to supported versions while they stayed in production.

What if the engineer turns out not to be a fit?

Two things protect you, and both are in the contract. First, a five-day free trial: you work with the engineer for five business days at no cost, on your real tickets, in your sprint, using your tools. If it is not a fit at the end of it you owe nothing and there is no notice period to serve. Second, a free replacement within five business days, at any point in the engagement and not just during the trial. You do not need to justify the decision to us. Because our engineers are in-house in Coimbatore rather than sourced from a marketplace, we can act on that quickly.

Who owns the code and the intellectual property?

You do, entirely, from the moment it is written. IP assignment is written into the contract before work starts, alongside a mutual NDA. It covers source code, designs and documentation. We do not reuse your code on other projects.

How quickly can a PHP developer start?

Three matched profiles within 48 hours of understanding your requirement, each with a technical assessment report attached. Once you have interviewed and signed off, the engineer is onboarded and in your standup within two working days. If we cannot meet that for your specific requirement, we will tell you before you start interviewing rather than after.

Can your PHP developers work onsite at our office?

Within India, yes. Two of our PHP full-stack developers currently work full time inside a client facility in Ennore, Chennai, on an 18-month purchase order, embedded in the client's own IT and project teams. Onsite deployment carries relocation and allowance costs so it is quoted separately from a remote engagement, and it needs a longer commitment to make sense for both sides. For clients outside India we work remotely, with an agreed daily overlap window; short onsite visits for kick-off or a critical phase can be arranged separately.

What timezone overlap do you provide?

Our team is in Coimbatore, India (IST, UTC+5:30). For UK clients that gives four to five hours of natural overlap. For US clients our engineers shift their hours to provide a minimum of four hours' overlap, which comfortably covers a daily standup and working sessions. We have run a multi-year engagement with a Florida-based client on exactly this model. The overlap window is agreed in writing before the engagement starts.

How do you vet your PHP developers, and can I interview them myself?

Our screening runs in five stages: a stack-specific CV screen against our PHP skill matrix, including which framework and which version rather than a generic "PHP developer" match; a scored technical assessment on Xobin, which a candidate has to pass before going any further and whose report you get alongside the CV; a live coding round on a real PHP problem; a technical interview run by a senior engineer covering database design, query performance, framework internals, security habits and how they read unfamiliar code; and a communication check plus reference verification. We do not use take-home assignments because they can be outsourced.

On top of that you can interview as many engineers and run as many rounds as you like, at no cost, and we will put the engineer on the call without a salesperson present. If you want to pair with them on a real ticket from your backlog for an hour, we will arrange it. Most clients run their own technical rounds as well, and any vendor who resists that is worth being cautious about.

What if you don't have the engineer I need, or I need a whole team rather than one developer?

We look in-house first, across our own 80+ engineers in Coimbatore. If the match is not on our payroll, we have standing partnerships with more than 30 established Indian IT services companies and access to their benches, which gives us far wider reach than any single company's bench. Either way you deal only with us: we source, screen and assess the engineer, we hold the contract, you get one invoice, and we carry the accountability, with the 5-day trial, the 5-business-day replacement, the IP assignment and the NDA applying identically.

Teams work the same way. A typical PHP pod is one senior engineer, two mid-level engineers, a QA engineer and a part-time UI/UX designer, with the senior engineer acting as your technical point of contact, and per-head cost is meaningfully lower than hiring the same roles individually. We have also staffed at much larger scale when needed — 250+ profiles sourced and 30+ engineers onboarded for Biz2Credit in New York inside three months.

Do your PHP developers handle DevOps and QA as well?

To a working level, yes: a PHP engineer can deploy to a Linux server, configure Apache or Nginx, manage environment configuration and write basic PHPUnit tests. That is not the same as specialising. If you need production-grade infrastructure, properly built CI/CD pipelines, or real automated test coverage, you should hire a DevOps engineer or a QA engineer as a separate role. We staff both, and we would rather tell you that upfront than have one full-stack developer half-doing three jobs.

Do you work with WordPress, WooCommerce and Moodle?

Yes, though it is not the main thing we do. Most of our PHP work is custom application development. But plenty of businesses run a Laravel application alongside a WordPress site, a WooCommerce store and a Moodle learning platform, and would rather one team looked after the lot. For International Training we upgraded all four to supported versions, fixed the Moodle performance problems on a platform used by thousands of users, and maintain the estate today. If your setup looks like that, describe the whole estate in your enquiry and we will scope all of it.

Should I choose Laravel, CodeIgniter or Yii for my project?

For anything new, choose Laravel. The ecosystem is the largest in PHP and the hiring market is far bigger, which matters more over five years than any technical difference between the three, and it is where the depth of our own team sits. If you already run a stable CodeIgniter application, keep it and upgrade it to CodeIgniter 4 on a supported PHP version rather than rewriting a working system, then build anything new alongside it in Laravel. Yii2 earns its place when the product is an admin-heavy, permission-heavy back office, which is why RAK Gold Jewellers runs on it. There is a full side-by-side comparison further up this page.

What is your engineer attrition rate?

Under 5%. The Indian IT industry average is 20 to 25%. We publish it because in PHP work it matters more than almost anything else: the value you are buying is an engineer who knows your codebase, and that value resets to zero every time one leaves. We would encourage you to ask every vendor on your shortlist for their number, in writing.

Let's have a discussion. If you have an idea and want to make it happen, or if you want to learn more about how we work. We will schedule a call with our project manager.

Techno Tackle is an ISO 27001:2022 certified software company in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, providing dedicated PHP developers to product companies, startups and enterprises in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Japan. Our engineers work across PHP 8 and the three MVC frameworks we can genuinely staff — Laravel, CodeIgniter and Yii2 — covering Eloquent and ActiveRecord data layers, REST API design, role-based access control, payment and third-party integrations, MySQL schema design and query tuning, Redis caching and deployment to Linux, cPanel or AWS. They join your team, your sprints and your repository rather than working behind a delivery wall, remotely from Coimbatore or onsite at your facility in India.

Most PHP work is not a greenfield build, and we do not pretend otherwise. It is inheriting an application someone else wrote, working out why it does what it does, upgrading an unsupported PHP version or an old framework release without freezing the roadmap, and keeping a system that runs the business running while it improves. That is what we did for International Training in Florida across a Laravel application, a WordPress site, a Moodle learning platform and a WooCommerce store, and it is why their CTO says our engineers understand the system better than most of his internal staff.

We have been doing this for over eleven years with the same leadership and the same delivery centre, across more than 400 clients and 1,000 projects, and we are a registered partner in Anthropic's partner network, so our engineers work with modern AI tooling rather than against it. What we compete on is retention: our engineer attrition is under 5% against an industry average of 20 to 25%, which in PHP maintenance work is the difference between an engineer who knows your codebase and one who is learning it again. Every engagement includes a five-day free trial, free replacement within five business days, full assignment of intellectual property to you, and a signed mutual NDA.

Whether you need one Laravel engineer to close a headcount gap, a pod to modernise a legacy PHP application, or two developers onsite at your facility, tell us the role and you will have a firm written quote within one working day and three matched profiles inside 48 hours. Indian clients are quoted in rupees at domestic rates; international clients are quoted in US dollars.
